🦷 Quick Summary: Our Aligners

Our Aligners: Advanced, Personalized, and Designed for Better Results

At Clear Aligners Direct, we use advanced orthodontic technology to deliver more comfortable, precise, and predictable smile transformations. Most patients are treated with our direct 3D-printed aligners, but in certain cases, traditional thermoformed aligners may be the better clinical choice.

What matters most is this: you’ll always know which aligner type you’re wearing—and how to use it properly.

Our Primary Aligner: Direct 3D-Printed Aligners

What Makes These Aligners Different

Unlike traditional aligners that are formed over physical molds, our primary aligners are directly 3D-printed using Graphy Inc.’s advanced Tera Harz TC-85 resin. This process allows for exceptional accuracy, durability, and comfort.

Key Benefits

  • Exceptional Fit & Accuracy
Each aligner is printed directly from your digital scan, resulting in superior precision and consistent force.
  • Comfortable and Flexible
Designed to be easier to insert and remove—even for crowded or difficult tooth positions.
  • Clear and Discreet
Made from transparent material that’s barely noticeable during daily wear.
  • Durable and Long-Lasting
Maintains shape and effectiveness longer, often reducing the number of aligners needed.
  • Safe and Certified
Made from biocompatible material with CE, KFDA medical device certification, and FDA approval.

Shape Memory & Heat-Activated Technology (3D-Printed Aligners Only)

One of the biggest advantages of our 3D-printed aligners is shape memory technology.

How It Works

Before insertion

  • The aligner is briefly placed in warm water (about 60–70°C) for 10–15 seconds.
  • This allows the material to temporarily soften, making insertion easier and more comfortable.

Once in your mouth

  • As the aligner cools to body temperature, it returns to its original shape.
  • This creates a precise fit and applies gentle, consistent pressure to move your teeth efficiently.

Why Patients Love This

  • Easier insertion and removal
  • Less initial discomfort
  • More consistent tooth movement
  • Fewer replacements over time

Important: Some Patients Use Thermoformed Aligners

While most patients benefit from our direct 3D-printed aligners, certain cases are better treated with traditional thermoformed aligners. If this is the right option for you, your provider will explain why.

⚠️ CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING

Thermoformed aligners must NEVER be heated.

  • Do not place them in hot or warm water
  • Do not attempt to soften them
  • Heat will permanently damage and destroy thermoformed aligners

How to Know Which Aligner You Have

Before you ever place an aligner in your mouth, you must know which type you’re wearing.

  • Your care team will clearly tell you whether your aligners are:
    • 3D-printed heat-activated aligners, or
    • Traditional thermoformed aligners
  • If you’re ever unsure—do not heat the aligner and contact us first.

When in doubt, assume it should NOT be heated until confirmed.

Direct 3D-Printed vs. Thermoformed Aligners: A Quick Comparison

Direct 3D-Printed Aligners

  • Printed directly from digital scans
  • Higher precision and trueness
  • Shape memory technology
  • Can be briefly warmed before insertion
  • Minimal material waste
  • Faster production and turnaround

Traditional Thermoformed Aligners

  • Formed over physical models
  • Effective for select clinical cases
  • No heat activation
  • Must never be warmed
  • More traditional manufacturing process

Why Our 3D-Printed Aligners Stand Out

Unlike traditional aligners made through multiple steps, our aligners are directly 3D-printed using Graphy’s Tera Harz TC-85 resin. This method ensures each aligner fits you perfectly, enhancing comfort and effectiveness.

The Benefits of Shape Memory Technology

A key feature of the Tera Harz TC-85 resin is its shape memory. This means your aligners maintain consistent pressure on your teeth, leading to efficient movement. Plus, they require fewer replacements since each aligner retains its corrective force longer.

Heat-Activated Material: How It Works

  1. Relaxation with Hot Water
    • Before insertion, the aligner is briefly immersed in warm or hot water (typically around 60-70°C).
    • The heat causes the Tera Harz TC-85 resin to temporarily soften and become more flexible, allowing the aligner to relax and expand slightly.
    • This makes the aligner easier to insert, even for patients with crowded or misaligned teeth, reducing discomfort during the process.
  2. Perfect Fit at Body Temperature
    • Once the aligner is placed in the mouth and exposed to body temperature (around 37°C), the material begins to cool and contract.
    • As it cools, the aligner resumes its original shape, applying gentle, consistent pressure to the teeth.
    • This ensures a precise fit and optimal force distribution, which is essential for effective tooth movement.
  3. Shape Memory Technology
    • The shape memory properties of the Tera Harz TC-85 resin allow the aligner to maintain its corrective force over time.
    • This means the aligner continues to apply the right amount of pressure to the teeth, even as they shift during treatment, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

Benefits of Heat-Activated Aligners

  1. Enhanced Comfort
    • The ability to relax the material with hot water makes the aligner easier to insert and remove, minimizing discomfort, especially during the initial stages of treatment.
  2. Precise Fit and Effectiveness
    • The cooling process ensures the aligner fits snugly and applies consistent pressure to the teeth, leading to more predictable and efficient treatment outcomes.
  3. Improved Patient Experience
    • The heat-activated feature simplifies the process of wearing aligners, making it more user-friendly and reducing the likelihood of patient frustration.
  4. Longer-Lasting Aligners
    • The shape memory properties of the material ensure the aligner retains its corrective force longer, reducing the number of aligners needed throughout the treatment.

How to Use Heat-Activated Aligners

  1. Prepare Warm Water: Fill a container with warm water (around 60-70°C).
  2. Soak the Aligner: Immerse the aligner in the water for 10-15 seconds to allow it to soften.
  3. Insert the Aligner: Gently place the aligner onto your teeth while it is still warm and flexible.
  4. Cool to Body Temperature: As the aligner cools to your body temperature, it will contract and apply the perfect pressure to your teeth.
